Working at Watermation - Mid to late 1980s

Created by Linda one month ago

Hi, Rebecca

I worked at Watermation from about 1987 to 1992 as secretary to Bill Hawthorn. My first full time job since having children and I loved it.

Kevin and I we got on well and I remember his humour, his kindness, his generosity, his politics (about which we had a few healthy disagreements). At that time he was a little right of centre and I was left.  His generosity was extended to my daughter, whom I brought into the office because her school had an inset day.  Kevin immediately put her to work, giving her little jobs to do and at the end of the day he gave her £10.  A huge sum in 1987 for an 9 year old.  She never forgot that.

Kevin never got flustered about anything and you could always rely on him to make a decision.  No matter what the situation that arose at work, he was the "go to guy" (apart from Bill) to get an answer to most problems.

I knew most of the family, Eileen, Sally, Phil, Peter Madden and had met Alison a few times.

In 1997, I married Donald Lennox who also worked at Watermation from about 1986 until the company finished.  Sadly, Don died in 2021. I googled Bill so that I could let him know about Don only to learn that he had also died.  Following the trail led me to learn of Kevin's death in 2008.  I am so sorry to hear of both your losses.  They must be very much missed.

I hope you pick up this message, please give my regards to your family.

Best wishes

Linda Lennox

I also admired him for his ability to make a decision.
